Clearwater Ferry Expands Service, Enhancing Downtown Connectivity
Published on February 10, 2025
Navigating between Downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach just got easier, thanks to the expanded Clearwater Ferry service. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) has partnered with Clearwater Ferry Inc. to integrate the ferry into the county’s public transit system, offering a seamless, traffic-free option for residents and visitors alike.
With the new expansion, the ferry now operates Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., running between Clearwater Harbor Marina in Downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach Municipal Marina.
A Boost for Downtown Clearwater
More than just a convenient way to reach the beach, the ferry also strengthens Downtown Clearwater’s role as a transportation hub. With ample parking available downtown and direct access to the Jolley Trolley, travelers can easily park, hop on the trolley, and board the ferry without the hassle of beach traffic. The Jolley Trolley now aligns its routes with ferry departures, for smooth transfers between downtown and the waterfront.
Affordable and Convenient Transit
A one-way ticket costs $5 for adults, while seniors (65+), children (9-18), individuals with disabilities, and adult students with ID can ride for $2.50. Children under eight ride for free, making it a family-friendly option.
As part of a broader effort to enhance public transportation, PSTA envisions the ferry as a sustainable and efficient alternative to driving. The service is supported through a combination of funding from PSTA, state grants, and contributions from the City of Clearwater, demonstrating a strong commitment to innovative transit solutions.

Future Expansion and Accessibility
While the ferry currently runs between Downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach, service to Downtown Dunedin is expected to resume once dock repairs from storm damage are completed. This expansion will further connect Pinellas County’s vibrant coastal communities, offering a scenic and stress-free alternative to driving.
